Can you make money on Facebook? The short answer is, yes. On Twitter, too.
Pay to Play Isn’t the Only Way
Increasingly, the major social media platforms are trying to drive exposure for business pages to a pay-to-play model. In other words, if you want to increase your exposure, they want you to pay for ads. That’s not to say that it is automatically a waste of time and money to buy ads. It can be an effective part of the overall marketing mix.
If you are a beginner, tight on money, or just want to make your advertising dollars go farther, it’s nice to have some free options available. There are ways to increase your social media followings, which will increase your overall exposure. However, I “like” a lot of pages on Facebook that I never visit. For some of those, I visit their company website even less often. Out of sight, out of mind, I believe the saying goes.
What’s more, even if I get my social media posts in front of a lot of people, I still need them to click on the link to get them to my website. If I hope to make money, I then need to get them to click on yet another link to get them to a product, or the site of an affiliate program vendor. Once there, I need them to perform yet another action, click through to an actual purchase.
If I manage to funnel a social media follower through that whole process, I’ve accomplished a pretty good feat. That’s a lot of steps to take before any money is spent. Put another way, that is a lot of opportunity for my social media follower to become disinterested, or distracted, and click their way to some other corner of the web.
You can see why paid advertising might seem like an appealing way to shortcut all of that. Right? As I said, not only can it be appealing, it can help you earn back your investment and then some. Assuming you approach it wisely, at least.
Take the Shortcut Without the Cost
Okay, but earlier I discussed some valid reasons that someone might want explore free ways of generating that traffic. Spending money to make money can make business sense, but making money without spending any makes more sense. Math wasn’t my best subject in school, but I think that making money without spending any first comes out in my favor. So, let’s revisit that idea, only now let’s consider the possibility that you could get clicks for free that don’t require pushing people into that multi-step sales funnel.
Well, there are a few tricks of the trade to do just that. Mind you, I am not encouraging you to spam your followers, or anyone else, on social media. That’s not a good long term business strategy. Not to mention that being too reckless with your marketing efforts can get you in hot water with the social media platforms.
Done effectively, though, it’s still possible to make money from your social media posts without resorting to spam tactics, or throwing all of your money at Facebook and Twitter ads.
These methods for generating profitable social clicks can be incorporated into an affiliate marketers game plan, but it also works on a smaller, personal level, if a person just wants to pick up a few extra bucks here and there.
Get to the Point
I know, you want me to get to the point, but if you are an online marketer, or aspiring to be, you know that I need to break that 500 word mark to help my on-page SEO. Well, we’ve passed the mark now, so here’s the deal. Instead of making this one of my signature 1,000 – 2,000 word articles, I’m just going to give you the e-book for free.
If you know anyone else who might want a free book about making money on social media, feel free to share this article. The beauty of digital products is that it costs me the same to share 1 copy as it does to share 100 copies.
